The 1/2" Type BY High Friction Clamp is designed to be used in applications that require higher tensile and frictional capacities than standard clamps. It may be used with parallel or tapered flanges. The recess in the top of the BY will capture the head of a Grade 5 bolt. When using larger head bolts or nuts, the BYP should be used to fill the recess. See chart below for tail length and packing combination to match flange thickness.

1/2" Type BY Short

The BY recess is suitable for the hexagonal head of 1/2” Grade 5 bolts. The Type BYP may be used to fill in the recess allowing for any grade bolt or nut to be tightened down to its surface.

See chart below for tail length and packing combinations. Do not exceed the Safe Working Load (SWL) specified. The Frictional failure for the Type BY Clamp is 1mm or 0.039 inches slip from its original position.
